PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Bus: No 80 or 81 bus from city centre - get off at the Myrtle Grove stop in Osborne Road. Walk back to Lonsdale Terrace and along it. #89 is facing you on the right after 100 yds.
The Airport is around 5 miles from Jesmond and is accessible by either taxi or METRO. The Taxi takes 15 minutes and can cost approximately £10. The Metro takes approximately 15 minutes at runs at least every 30 minutes and the cost is around £1.60. All Metro trains run to West Jesmond, and the exit is on Lyndhurst Ave (opposite the old Jesmond Cinema). As you leave the station cross the road, and pass the Lonsdale Pub on your left and turn left into Lonsdale Terrace, walk across Glenthorn Ave, passing Razor Barber Shop on your right, then next left into Bayswater Road. #89 is on your left as you turn into Bayswater Road.
From A1 South.
On approach to Tyneside look for Washington Services (After passing Chester-le-Street) and move to left lane. (right lanes feed off towards Tyne Tunnel). Then half a mile later, again move to the left lane, (the two right lanes are the Western Bypass A1, TRY TO AVOID TAKING THE BYPASS). This left lane (marked to Angel of the North) slips off to a roundabout at which you go straight on/slightly right, (under the road you have just come off) following signs for ANGEL OF THE NORTH & GATESHEAD SOUTH (A167) You will pass the famous steel Angel on your left. Follow this road for 2 miles; you cross the Tyne Bridge and enter the CENTRAL MOTORWAY (Subway).
Two Alternative Routes:
A. A. Look for a Right Filter lane marked to TYNEMOUTH & COAST (A1058) about half mile after the Tyne Bridge. You slip off to the right, after a sharp bend move to left lane, and turn left at the traffic lights into Osborne Road (JESMOND). Proceed 1 mile through lights and on up Osborne Road. The road bends left, then right and left again, take the next left turn into Lonsdale Terrace, then 89 Bayswater is on your right after 100 yds (end terrace - ground floor). Park in surrounding streets. Note: if you miss Lonsdale Terrace, take the next left into Myrtle Grove and then left into Bayswater Road.
B. B. Take the second Right Filter lane (after Tynemouth & Coast) is signed for Gosforth, follow the road straight ahead with Town Moor on your left side to turn Right at roundabout towards Ashington A189. Go straight on, *move to right lane* to turn right into Jesmond at the lights (Osborne Road). After 100yds the road bends to the left, pass Myrtle Grove on Right, then take the next right into Lonsdale Terrace, then 89 Bayswater is on your right after 100 yds (end terrace - ground floor). Park in surrounding streets.
From A1 North. On approach to Tyneside look for left slip road marked to Gosforth (about 1 mile after road to Tyne tunnel). Straight on at round-about to Gosforth for about 1.5 miles through Gosforth High Street. On leaving Gosforth, look for roundabout on leaving Gosforth at edge of Town Moor, take the left turn marked A189 Ashington. Then after 200yds a right turn at lights into Jesmond (Osborne Road). After 100yds, the road bends to the left, pass Myrtle Grove on right, then take the next right into Lonsdale Terrace, then 89 Bayswater is on your right after 100 yds (end terrace - ground floor). Park in surrounding streets.
From A69 West. This is not as easy but here goes. From A69 approach, straight over roundabout above Western bypass (A1), left at next roundabout (Denton pub facing) into Silver Lonnen, right at the next roundabout, straight on at the next mini roundabout, then just after that right at the large roundabout (Safeway store on right). You are now on dual carriageway heading for the city! Before ending up in the city take the first slip road left towards Ashington. Continue for about 1 mile through a set of lights to a roundabout. Go straight on, *move to right lane* to turn right into Jesmond at the lights (Osborne Road). After 100yds the road bends to the left, pass Myrtle Grove on Right, then take the next right into Lonsdale Terrace, then 89 Bayswater is on your right after 100 yds (end terrace - ground floor). Park in surrounding streets.
From Coast & Tyne Tunnel Follow the Coast Road towards Newcastle city centre. About 1 mile after crossing Jesmond Dene, you pass the Imperial Hotel on your right, move over to right lane to take make a right turn at the 2nd set of lights into Jesmond (Osborne Road). Proceed 1 mile through lights and on up Osborne Road. The road bends left, then right and left again, take the next left turn into Lonsdale Terrace, then 89 Bayswater is on your right after 100 yds (end terrace - ground floor). Park in surrounding streets. Note: if you miss Lonsdale Terrace, take the next left into Myrtle Grove and then left into Bayswater Road.
